| Cover design for 'The Banana Leaf Men' |
“Sarah, who goes to Maniams for the service? The banana leaf meal is good. And cheap. Who cares about the service?
“Yes, but I’m paying them. They should be nice to me.”
“This reminds me of the joke my father told me once: this man goes to the coffee shop and asks the waiter for tea. When the tea is brought to him, he sees a fly in it. He calls the waiter over and demands to know, ‘What’s this in my tea?’ The waiter looks at the man and replies, ‘What did you expect for 80 sen? An elephant?’”
“It’s not the same.”
“It is the same, Sarah. What did you expect from Maniams? You pay RM5.00 for a full banana leaf and expect silver service.”
“Let’s not fight. Where do I turn now?”
[Note: I'm aware the image has no bearing/relation on the story. Still, it's the cover of my first book. Since the story is about a banana leaf meal, I thought I'll put this image here.]
